Phew! What a mad few weeks it's been. The Big Bad Recession is looming, but according to my aunts who are visiting from overseas, nobody here acts like there's hard times ahead. I certainly agree. Every year, I normally have one Christmas party at home with friends and family. Normally we have about 30 people over. This year, not only did we have a party on the 13th of December with FIFTY-THREE people, we had ANOTHER party on the 25th, complete with turkey, for 20 people!
We cooked some really awesome food. I concocted a recipe for roast vegetables, and they turned out pretty alright. It was a lot of work keeping an eye on them, though. I had to constantly check and stir them around so they wouldn't burn. We also had loads of roast chicken wings and drumsticks, mutton curry, chicken kurma, salad and rice.
The Carollers from the TTDI church turned up at 11pm on the dot and sang a great number of beautiful carols.
Then on Christmas eve, cousin Roshan and his girlfriend Sarah came over after visiting Batu Caves. Mum tried a recipe for Avocado chicken salad for dinner, which was fantastic! It's really simple to make too, so I'm inclined to copy this recipe a lot over the next year, when I change my lifestyle and eat more home-cooked food.
For midnight mass, we got all dolled up and went to the TTDI church. Mum bought me a pretty strapless flower-print dress and matched it with a bright red ribbon. Mass was cool, except for a horrible woman sitting next to me who kept bumping my shoulder and practically leaning into me. God, was that annoying! I was thiiiis close to ticking her off but decided not to. Instead, about halfway through mass, I whispered to Fiona, loud enough for Ms. Bumper to hear "If this woman bumps me ONE more time, I'm going to turn and smack her in the face."
Unfortunately some people are thick, so following that I angled my seat so that my back faced her for the rest of mass. GAH!
Christmas Day was great. Although lacking sleep, we pulled off a great party. With Fiona's signature turkey made in a slightly sweet style with apples and pears, it really was a perfect Christmas.
The next day, we visited Granny, Willie and Linda and oh boy, I stuffed my face absolutely full of typical Portuguese food - Devil curry, sumur and two types of Malay rendang.
Where else in the world can you have such an awesome variety of Western and Asian cuisine? Yummy!
